Young designers duke it out at second annual Student Design Jam

RAPID CITY, S.D. (Oct. 9, 2014) – The American Advertising Federation-Black Hills (AAF-BH) will host the second annual Student Design Jam from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Jacket Legacy Room at Black Hills State University.

The Jam lets fresh, young talent compete in a free-style battle that whittles nine designers down to a final faceoff of three in front of a live audience. After three rounds, the reigning winners will go head to head for the title of champion.

The first three rounds feature three students each who compete to dream up the best design in just 10 minutes for an assigned creative brief using the same elements, fonts and photos. The panel of judges then has three minutes to determine a winner from each round to move on to the final championship battle.

Jason Alley, Principal/Head of Creative Development at the marketing and communications agency Jackalope; Erin Zieske, graphic designer at Print Mark-et; and Josh Rundell, future productionist/marketer at LiMo Studios and last year’s Student Design Jam winner will serve as judges.

Prizes include:

  • First prize: $250 worth of print work from Simpson’s Printing
  • Second prize: 1-year subscription to Communication Arts magazine from AAF-Black Hills
  • Third prize: A portfolio, usb flash drive, design/illustration supplies, and a $10 gift card from the BHSU Bookstore
