“The Good Fight”

Join the AAF Black Hills for the January luncheon featuring Shannon Phillips from Dallas, Texas – share how the deisgn work her team did for the non-profit “Meat Fight”, became the hottest design ticket in Dallas.

In 2010, Dallas’ Alice Laussade was heartbroken and pretty pissed off (she has a potty mouth) upon learning that her brother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. To help deal with the sting of her brother’s diagnosis, Alice began Meat Fight® with 50 friends and family, a BBQ grill, and a keg in her backyard. There was an entry fee, and the group raised $2000 for the National MS Society.

After her buzz and meat coma wore off that Fall day, Alice realized there was more she could do to raise awareness and money for MS. After all, she is a James Beard Award-winning food columnist for the Dallas Observer, and writer of the popular food blog “The Cheap Bastard.” And hell (can we get some soap to wash out that mouth?), she knew practically every chef in town.

So in 2012, she brought meat to the masses and her idea became an official 501c3 non-profit organization. The event was open to the public and featured “16 of Dallas’ best chefs competing for barbecue glory, being judged by the best barbecue minds in the best barbecue state.” J&S took over marketing duties in 2014 handling branding, public relations, advertising, merchandising/apparel and social media. The event has literally become the hottest ticket in town each year.

Work for the non-profit has been called “Some of the best design in the city” by the editor of D Magazine, and was featured in the November 2017 issue of Texas Monthly.
