Designers duke it out at second annual Design Jam

RAPID CITY, S.D. (May 5, 2014) – The American Advertising Federation-Black Hills (AAF-BH) will host its second annual Design Jam at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Dahl Arts Center. Designed to bring together local designers and the Rapid City community to share in the design process, the Design Jam lets graphic designers battle it out in four rounds for the title of champion in front of a live audience.

The first three rounds feature three participants each who compete to dream up the best design in just 10 minutes for an assigned creative brief using the same elements, fonts and photos. The panel of judges then has three minutes to determine a winner from each round to move on to the final championship battle.

AAF-BH will also hold a food drive for the B.E.A.R. program, a suicide awareness group on the Pine Ridge Reservation, to provide food for youth in need. Attendees who bring non-perishable food items to the Design Jam will receive a $2 discount on tickets.

Golden West is this year’s event sponsor. Round, prize and in-kind sponsors include: Message, Adoba Eco Hotel, Pixeden, Communication Arts magazine, Wicked Salon and Spa, AcV2 Architecture, Coca Cola, Computer Village and Lynda.com.

Dustin Hinson, assistant professor of mass communications at Black Hills State University; Patri Acevedo-Riker, principal at AcV2 architecture; and Tyler Read, graffiti artist, co-director of arts education for the Rapid City Arts Council and founder of Find A Way Collective will serve as the Design Jam judges.
