BH State students, SDSM&T and Message take home American Advertising Awards

RAPID CITY, S.D. (April 16, 2014) – Black Hills State University students, the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and Message took home the gold among other awards at the 2014 American Advertising Awards for District Eight, an area comprised of clubs throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Message, a local marketing and communications firm, took home four silver awards for the  “Black Hills Ammunition 2014 Survival Kit,” sales kits or product information sheet; “Black Hills Ammunition Portraits of Courage – ‘Charlie,’” audio/video sales presentation; the “Lakota Voice Project Graffiti Billboard,” public service – non-traditional; and “Jackalope Jerky,” self-promotion collateral.

The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology University Relations won a silver award for the “Adventure Weekend Logo.”

Students at Black Hills State University dominated the student award show, nabbing five gold and two silver awards along with two Judge’s Choice awards and the Student Best of Show. The gold award winners will compete in nationals this spring.

  •  Joseph Geyer a gold award and the Student Best of Show award for his color photograph “Peeling Away the Beauty.”
  • Lorena V. Surncio won a gold award and Judge’s Choice for her digitally enhanced photo “Mandela.”
  • Makena Peet won a gold award for her illustration “Illuminated Letter.”
  • Shelby C. Best won a gold award for her single illustration “Goldfish.”
  • Laura Howard won a gold award for her black and white photograph “Sunday Brunch.”
  • Anthony Petrone won two silver awards for his black and white photographs: “Untitled 1” and “Untitled 2.”
